The Looking Glass

A sick young girl in a hospital gown searches around with a magnifying glass.

GIRL: You know what I see? Do you know?
Well I’ll tell you. Nothing.
That’s what I see- nothing.
Nothing at all. Nothing left.
No ants no worms no flies no bees.
Nothing at all.

(Cries.)

There ain’t nothing left.
You’ve taken everything from us kids.
Everything.
You don’t listen
You don’t care
I’m just a silly kid to you
I mean nothing.

(Pause.)

Just like the rest of this nothingness.
You have stolen my future
Wasted my health
Did you think it would never end?

(Pause.)

What do you see here? Look!
Look closer dude. Come on.
What do you see in this glass?
I’ll tell you what.
Nothing!
Coz there ain’t nothing left.
Just cancer. Here.

(Touches her belly.)

Here.

(Touches her chest.)

And here.
But you dudes are the sick ones

(Touches her head.)

Right here.
You have stolen my future
Wasted my health
Did you think it would never end?

(Blackout.)

END.
