Sensitive People – The Kinder-Morgan Musical

At center stage is a small deciduous tree.

Kinder-Morgan (Walking across the stage with gravitas): Here at Kinder-Morgan we care…

Dancer #1 pirouettes towards the tree with one hand fluttering wildly as if a bird in boisterous flight.

Kinder-Morgan: We care about each and every leaf on every tree that’s in the path of our pipeline.

KM sits at the edge of the stage.

Dancers #2, 3, 4 and 5 spin erratically across the stage with arms held up as if giant leaves.

Kinder-Morgan: We care about each and every feather on every single bird across the planet and all the worms slurped up in their beaks.

Dancer #6 wriggles slowly across the stage.

Kinder-Morgan: That’s why at Kinder-Morgan we’ve made a song to express our feelings.

Kinder-Morgan and dancers together: Not a bird in the sky, or a leaf up on high, goes undreamed in our dreams at night. Not a whimper, or a cry, or an angry look passing by, goes unfelt in our hearts that sigh.

Kinder-Morgan: Here at Kinder-Morgan it comes down to a feeling of wellness. When people look at us with angry expressions, it makes us want to take them to court. It hurts because those people don’t understand how much we feel. We care so much about trees, leaves, birds and most of all the greenest of God’s creatures – money, which isn’t a dirty thing to say. Money buys security and in these troubled times of pipelines that leak and tankers that run aground, we want to be sure that we have the most money. But when people look at us with anger in their eyes, it’s hurtful and to be honest it shows a lack of judgement.

Kinder-Morgan and dancers together: Not a bird in the sky, or a leaf up on high, goes undreamed in our dreams at night. Not a whimper, or a cry, or an angry look passing by, goes unfelt in our hearts that sigh: Please understand an angry face is more a disgrace than the blackest of black oil spills. A spill can be mostly cleaned, but an angry look is in the record books forever of our hearts.

Kinder-Morgan (continuing): When people look at us with anger in their eyes, it’s hurtful and to be honest it shows a lack of judgement. It shows us that they don’t care about their own well-being. It tells us that we are going to have to hurt them. Here at Kinder-Morgan it hurts us to have to hurt other people, but in order to ensure profits it’s what we’re willing to do.
